The Crystal Circus (working title) Original idea and story outline by Andrew Bonime When the five members of the locally popular '60s rock band The Crystal Circus get emails inviting them to meet for a weekend on a private island home of one of the members, they haven't seen or spoken with each other for 40 years. They go out of curiosity, but also because each of them remembers the time they spent in the band the high point of their lives. This Big Chill style ensemble piece brings together five friends from the 60's at a point in their lives when there is more sand in the bottom of the hour glass than in the top. Tapping into the introspection and reflections that many children of the 60's are going through as empty nesters and successful or failed businesses people, and marginally successful in their personal lives, this film explores the values and lives of people just like all of us. The band was not a successful recording act - just one that made some local noise and brought the best moments to the lives of these five men and their girlfriends. Now, one of them is facing a crisis in business that will likely send him to jail for a long time (think Enron) and he wants one more shot at the time in his life when making music transported him into a place of both calm and ecstasy. This film explores human relationships, values, and the mistakes and choices that people make along the way through life. Or, as John Lennon said "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." Great roles for an ensemble cast and a possible Oscar contender, if directed and acted carefully. Also, a great package for a power agent.
